Must-Haves and To-do Things in Looking for a Job

We all know that finding a job is never easy, and it takes a lot effort on our part to at least get ourselves to be shortlisted and interviewed. One has to arm himself with various things that would make him stand out among the rest. One has to have an edge.

Below are the suggested things to have in finding a job:

1.      Align your skills and background to the position you are applying for.

When applying for a job, it is important that you know your skills and capabilities and that they reflect on your CV. It has to match the job requirement and you'll make it easy for the recruiters or HR to place you into the right position. Knowing your skills and capabilities is as important as knowing the job itself. So do your homework, study the job description, and know a little bit about it.

2.      Refine your CV/Resume.

Your curriculum vitae or CV is a reflection of your personality and qualifications so you better be sure of refining it and make it look presentable. It has to be short and full of action words that define your work history and the responsibilities done in your previous organization. Avoid grammatical errors and spelling mistakes because your CV is a professional document that sells you as a job seeker. To learn more about how the CV looks like, please click here.

3.      Build Connection.

It is important to know people. They are the ones who inspire you or push you to your limits and they are a great factor in your successful career. Knowing professionals elevates your chances to get a job you want. There are many ways to build a connection: Socializing in some formal gatherings, attending job fairs, building a good profile on LinkedIn and adding professionals in different fields, engaging in social media, etc.

4.      Online Presence.

Speaking of social media, your online presence is as important as making connections. In today’s digital world, one of the hiring strategies is employing the aid of technology and social media in search of great talents to be employed. People are active in social media, especially talented millennials. This is your next step towards getting employed.

5.      Job Portal Variations.

I am sure that we don’t want to get stuck with just one easy way, we have to utilize what is available for us. There are many job portals in which we can register your profile and apply for a job, such as monster.com, indeed.com, LinkedIn, bayt.com, naukrigulf.com, to name a few. If you are not familiar with some of them, you may google them out. I recommend having various job portals to use in looking for a job because most of the companies are using some of them which are not necessarily the same as what the others are using. Be diverse and be smart!

6.      Technical Back-up or Certifications.

I strongly recommend investing in education and further studies to learn more skills. This is your arm on the battlefield and that will make you a strong candidate for the position. Many of you may say that learning new skills is a waste of time but always remember that time will never be wasted when you learn something new. It will enrich your professional knowledge and will advance you to the next step of your career.

Again, finding a job is never easy, I am sure many of you will agree and we have to persevere. Perseverance should never be an option, it is a must. As what Marie Curie said:

“Life is not easy for many of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.”
